Construction Digitalization Workshop and Demonstration

UBC’s Smart Construction and Infrastructure Research Cluster (SICRC) is hosting a workshop on construction digitalization on Monday October 23rd. The workshop includes professionals from the construction sector ecosystem along with representatives from the Construction Research Center at the National Research Council (NRC). The attendees will discuss and identify the current challenges that the sector is facing towards its use of digital technologies and barriers to increase productivity.

The workshop will be followed by a presentation from NRC representatives describing their new platform to decarboniza the sector at scale along with their new challenge programs on low carbon built environment and sector digitalization and productivity. The presentation includes an introduction to the new programs as well as processes that the industries and academic partners can collaboration with NRC.

Finally, the audience are invited to visit a demonstration of a robotic construction platform. The demonstration includes 3D mapping of an area using autonomous drones in realtime, followed by a robotic-controlled crane placing construction materials in the designated areas. The demonstration is a middle step in a current project with the goal of fully automating the construction of timber buildings.
